Mobile radiation oncology suite built by RESHETNEV company
May 26, 2025

The Mobile Radiation Oncology Suite (MROS) is an investment project by JSC RESHETNEV and ROSCOSMOS State Corporation.

Based on a domestically designed induction accelerator technology, the suite will be used for the intraoperative radiation therapy of various cancerous growths.

The project is co-signed by Tomsk Polytechnic University (providing the induction accelerator), I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, and Tomsk National Research Medical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Cancer Research Institute.

The expert team at RESHETNEV developed the R&D documentation for the project, and built a number of suite components, among them a positioner for smooth and accurate beam pointing, and the software necessary for planning, preparing and delivering radiation therapy sessions.

As of today, two MROS test models have been built at RESHETNEV and subjected to functional and radiation tests by our partners. Patient clinical trials are foreseen in the nearest future.

In 2025 RESHETNEV was granted the Quality Management System Certificate of Conformity, allowing the company to produce serial medical devices.

The company plans to start serial production of MROS for medical institutions nationwide in 2026.

The following benefits are to be gained by implementing the MROS:

  • spot treatment of the tumor with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue;
  • shorter treatment time compared to conventional radiation therapy;
  • high efficiency, as treatment directly at the time of surgery reduces the risk of recurrence.

Being compact and lightweight in comparison to other similar systems, the suite can be easily relocated within the medical institution if need be.

Domesticating the production eliminates the need for imported components and reduces the cost of equipment procurement, operation and maintenance.
