On July 20 2022, RESHETNEV and RUSSIAN SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY signed a contract for the delivery of EXPRESS-AMU4 communication and broadcasting satellite.
RESHETNEV experts have realized their qualified solutions for the middle class satellites on EXPRESS-1000 platform in this new project. EXPRESS-AMU4 is featuring C-, Ku-, and L-band transponders. The satellite payload is going to operate with the power of 6.3 kW allocated by the electric power subsystem. EXPRESS-AMU4 is designed to perform its mission in orbit for over 15 years.
The satellite will provide communication and broadcasting services to the European part of Russia as well as countries of Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, South America and parts of North America.
EXPRESS-AMU4 by RESHETNEV is included into 2016 – 2025 Russian Federal Space Program as part of the Russian Federation Digital Economy project, which is aimed at providing access to the Internet by developing satellite communications. EXPRESS-AMU4 shall also contribute to the development of one of the high-tech areas – Prospective Space Systems and Services. The goal of this federal project is to accelerate Russian Federation technological development in conjunction with ROSCOSMOS State Corporation and space industry commercial organizations.
EXRESS-AMU4 production is aimed at supporting and developing the existing telecommunication orbital constellationа by replacing the other satellite at the 11 degrees west orbital slot, which have already extended its guaranteed lifetime in orbit. Apart from that, EXPRES-AMU4 may also be used for the reservation of 14 degrees west orbital slot. The satellite is going to perform the mission of providing a wide range of satellite telecommunication services.
- EXPRESS-AMU4 is the first satellite being manufacture under the sanctions passed on Russian Federation.
- The new communication and broadcasting satellite is manufactured solely with domestic components.
- The platform and payload are produced by RESHETNEV company.
- Advanced design applied: steerable antenna, ensuring reception and transmission of Ku-band signals, has the two-mirror structure with the main reflector 0.9 m in diameter.
Satellite designing activities have been finished; design documentation is almost ready. EXRPESS-AMU4 shall be housed by EXPRESS-1000 qualified platform, which is currently undergoing certain modifications, which have become vital due to the present reality.
The prototypes of antennas components have been tested. EXPRESS-AMU4 shall have 10 antennas total to operate in C-, Ku-, and L-bands.
Ground level qualification of the payload passive repeating equipment is in process. New multiplexors, coaxial loads, high-frequency filters, coaxial-to-waveguide transitions and other payload hardware are being produced.
Manufacturing of the technological fixture for the deployable antenna reflector of 2 meters in diameter is completed. The fixture is made of nickel and iron metal alloy, ensuring minimum distortion of the product when exposed to heat, as well as compatibility with the composite material used to manufacture reflectors. As of now, five more such fixtures are being manufactured.
EXPRESS-AMU4 satellite is manufactured in the framework of the national operator, RSCC, satellite constellation reinforcement program and to provide communication and broadcasting services.
