“Academician M. F. Reshetnev “Information Satellite Systems” company (member of Roscosmos State Corporation) is upgrading satellites for the LOUTCH data relay system.
New satellites feature repeater subsystems of higher throughput. LOUTCH-5VM satellites are intended as an upgrade for the Multifunctional Satellite Relay System (MSRS) LOUTCH. Among its functions are control & monitoring of LEO spacecraft and real-time payload data exchange between ground stations and satellites in low Earth orbits. In addition, MSRS handles signals from automated platforms of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet) and messages from radio distress buoys to support search & rescue operations.
For over 40 years, RESHETNEV company has been the only Russia-based manufacturer of data relay satellites. In total, eight LOUTCH satellites have been launched including currently operational LOUTCH-5A, LOUTCH-5B & LOUTCH-5V.
