Communication for Mobile Users
Serial production of miniature user terminals for vehicular communication started at RESHETNEV (a ROSCOSMOS company)
First in the lineup is the RS-30M satellite communication user terminal designed to provide sustainable two-way data transmission on mobile objects. The terminal is compact and lightweight coming in at 30 cm antenna diameter and 2.5 kilos of weight, which allows it to be installed on various vehicles.
The RS-30M terminal was tested by RESHETNEV en route from Saint Petersburg to Murmansk.
The terminal’s antenna maintained precise pointing to target geostationary satellite (36’000 meters altitude) along the entire route. The established communication channel relayed TM data, as well as text and audio, and provided broadband data transmission for the rail crew when passing through open terrain.
The preliminary test results have proven the RS-30M user terminals’ capability of providing high rate intercom on trains.
RESHETNEV specialists are planning to continue similar experiments to validate RS-30M user terminals’ performances on other railway routes.
