New measurement technology

In the framework of the contract signed with ROSCOSMOS State Corporation, RESHETNEV is searching for a solution to improve the quality of manufacturing large structures, reflectors and other satellite components by improving measurements accuracy.

In the process of research and development RESHETNEV experts came up with optical measurement technology for determining thermal deformations of satellite structures with high-accuracy.

The manufactured equipment including LiDAR and camera system will ensure contactless measurement of surface shape deviations of the satellite antenna feeder system under simulated space conditions. The allowable error is as follows: for the test object up to 5 m ±30 µm; for the test object up to 6 m ±80 µm.

In accordance with technical specification the company’s experts developed special software allowing to obtain absolute values in coordinate determination, taking into account the difference of media and changes in the trajectory of the laser beam as it passes through the camera porthole to the object and back again.

They have also developed algorithms for measuring geometric parameters of structures using LiDAR and mapping photography. Now the documentation is being registered in the State Register of Measurement Methods.

RESHETNEV engineers are going to test the new technology on ground using reflectors with an aperture of up to 6 m in order to advocate the new technology to the customer.

The project is being worked on jointly with The Siberian State University of Science and Technology.
