The equipment upgrade proposed by RESHETNEV in the frame of EXPRESS-RV R&D resulted in the onboard control system control unit taking on onboard computer functions. This allows for mass reduction as well as provides for more local manufacturing content. As of this writing, a test model of the new unit is being manufactured.
The EXPRESS-RV satellite under construction at RESHETNEV is part of a satellite communication system of the same name for the SPHERE Federal Program. The system is to include four high elliptical orbit spacecraft providing broadband Internet access services across Russia and the aquatories of its northern seas.
