Manufacturing Processes Upgraded at RESHETNEV

Galvanic bath efficiency increased

Kaizen proposals successfully implemented into manufacturing flow at the company

Early 2024 saw Kaizen proposals being first implemented at RESHETNEV. The fast improvement approach is aimed at helping personnel augment their work stations. The main criterion is for the proposal to have a significant impact in terms of lead time reduction and resource efficiency, while no change is required to the manufacturing technology itself.

Presently, there are 768 kaizen proposals filed by RESHETNEV staff, 251 of which are successfully implemented. This approach allows for improving the work flow by aligning it with the principles of lean manufacturing.

One example is a proposal filed by the galvanic and paint-and-varnish coatings shop team for a new tooling used for galvanic bath anodizing. The device allows installing four workpieces per cycle instead of one. By using the bath to its fullest potential, the workshop was able to reduce the production cycle by a factor of four, an important step in the preparation for serial spacecraft production.

For reference:

Kaizen is a term originating from Japanese lean practices. It roughly translates to “fast, continuous improvement”.
