New Measurement Technology for Geometric Parameters

Improving the quality of reflectors is a priority for RESHETNEV

A high-precision contactless geometry measurement technology is being developed at RESHETNEV for use in high and low temperatures and vacuum environment.

The new technology involves a measurement device installed outside the vacuum chamber that measures the coordinates of specified points on DUT surface by means of a laser ray through the chamber window. The software developed in the frame of the project will handle the measurement data received, and define the DUT geometry parameters at temperatures ranging from – 140 to 140°C, including shape fluctuation within several dozen microns.

Implementing this technology will further augment the quality of reflectors, large-scale structures and other spacecraft elements by increasing measurement accuracy. It may also be scaled for future use in vacuum chambers of any type and size.

The R&D is funded by ROSCOSMOS State Corporation and performed in cooperation with Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology.
