Concurrent Design Facility during the videoconference held via SKIF-D satellite

SKIF-D, the demonstration satellite for SPHERE Federal Program built at RESHETNEV, providing video conference services on the regular

It’s communication as usual with SKIF-D satellite providing a link between two RESHETNEV facilities, the Antenna Field and the Concurrent Design Facility. The videoconference was joined by RESHETNEV Deputy General Designer Mikhail Valov and Russia 24 TV channel crew filming a feature for Cosmonautics Day.

The video call was supported by SKIF-D experimental TT&C stations, one of them located at RESHETNEV, the other at the Small Satellites design bureau in Zheleznogorsk Industrial Park, two cellular base stations, and a secured network.

To hold a communication session like this proves the capability for establishing high quality video links via the experimental SKIF-D space system, the first among Russia’s orbital fleet to operate in a 8’070 km polar inclined orbit.

The SKIF-D demonstration satellite launched on October 22, 2022 was built by RESHETNEV company in the frame of the Integrated Development of Space Information Technologies Federal Program (SPHERE). Knowledge obtained from its operation will be used in designing the nominal SKIF communication satellite constellation intended for providing high-speed internet access throughout Russia and adjacent regions.
